The only way to become a writer is to write.
I graduated this year last year in 2010 with an English Literature and Creative Writing degree and a sense of shock. The most important thing I learnt over my three year degree was that in order to write, and write well, you need to learn to ignore the little voice that tells you not to bother.
In order to address both the sense of shock and the voice of writer’s block I am starting this blog in the hope that one day I’ll get into the habit of recording my thoughts in a way that could be shared.
The aim:
When I’m not filling my days with a budding interest in librarianship, expect from this blog poetry, excerpts of prose, thoughts on reading and writing, and the occasional moan about the library in which I currently work.
Have you read Anne Lamott? She has this great little gem titled Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. (Perhaps I’m jumping ahead a bit seeing as I’ve only glanced at your blog for approximately 8.24 seconds.) Regardless, some of your sentiments on writing are discussed in this book. It’s quite the good read!

You get to express yourself however you choose to, and can attract like-minded people along the way! Also, without blogs, writers would forever be dependent on other people to approve and like their writing before it ever got published! THAT can be very frustrating for someone who just wants to write….
